| What is DUCKTALES? |
|
DuckTales is a public art extravaganza that will showcase 23, 4 ft. fiberglass duck sculptures, painted and decorated by commissioned artists, on the sidewalks of Larchmont in the summer of 2006. Artists will be asked to draw on the cultural influences and history of Larchmont to inspire their whimsical designs, thereby creating ducks that bring history to life and tell the “Tales of Larchmont.” Hence, “DuckTales.” The event will be funded through individual and corporate sponsorships that allow a broad cross-section of the Larchmont community to contribute. Profits from DuckTales will launch the initial fundraising effort for the Larchmont Historical Society’s Museum Campaign.
|
| Why should the community support this? |
While DuckTales will benefit the Larchmont Historical Society’s campaign, the acquisition of a home for LHS, complete with an office, museum, state-of-the-art archives and gift shop, would be a wonderful asset and gift for the entire community. A museum would enable us to have ongoing and special exhibits, conduct tours for residents and visitors and provide on-site workshops and activities for our schools. An expanded archive would be a wonderful way for residents to participate in researching their homes, families and local history. Larchmont holds a prominent place in New York’s history. We hope to bring this rich and vibrant history to life and better fulfill our charter to preserve and disseminate our resources and educate the public about Larchmont’s past. 2006 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Larchmont Historical Society. We felt that this was the perfect time to formalize a fundraising plan for a Museum. We hope you’ll agree and participate in making this a successful and fun
event for all!

| How does it work? |
| The call for Sponsors and Artists begins soon and will continue this winter. Artist designs are due March 24th. The Artist Selection Committee will select the winning designs and place them in a portfolio for Corporate Sponsors to choose their designated artists. In mid-April, Sponsors will be officially paired with their artists and unpainted web-footed friends at the “Duck Adoption Party” after which, the artists take delivery of the ducks and have until late June to complete their work. The painted ducks will waddle into downtown Larchmont in early July and remain on the streets through October when they will be auctioned off at the Larchmont Historical Society’s 25th Anniversary Gala. |
| Who benefits? |
| EVERYONE! Ducktales is a family-friendly art event that will boost community spirit on all levels. The three month public art exhibit will visually promote art and culture, showcase local talent, increase pedestrian traffic for the entire Larchmont business district and offer area businesses that are not located downtown, an opportunity to increase their awareness and participation in the community. The Larchmont Historical Society will utilize proceeds from the event to establish a Capital Campaign for a museum. |
