On September 22, 1891, the Larchmont Manor Company was dissolved and the community was officially incorporated as the Village of Larchmont. To mark this momentous occasion, the Village of Larchmont Board of Trustees established a quasquicentennial celebration coordination committee, Larchmont 125, comprised of Larchmont area residents with ties to the local business, historical, educational, and cultural communities.
This official community-wide celebration will commence in September 2015 and conclude in September 2016. The all-volunteer committee is planning a year-long celebration of exciting public events and fascinating educational programs that will appeal to all age groups. The committee will plan, promote, and produce signature events as well as incorporate already existing events, new community events, and organization-sponsored events. The signature events will be paid for by the nonprofit Celebrate Larchmont, Inc. through fundraising activities, sponsorships, donations, concessions, and commemorative merchandise sales.
At least five signature events have been proposed to honor Larchmont’s 125th anniversary:
• Mayor’s Proclamation and Birthday Cake (September 2015 Kick-Off Event)
• Time Capsule (to be opened on the 150th anniversary in 2041)
• 1890s Gala Ball (September 2016)
To launch the celebration, the Larchmont 125 committee is conducting a logo contest which is open to any individual of any age. A judging panel will select the winning design which will be used to promote Larchmont’s anniversary events. All the details for entering the logo contest, as well as information about the upcoming festivities, can be found on the Larchmont 125 website www.Larchmont125.org beginning January 22nd.
